Here's a list of more or less everything I know so far about  Goodworths in Sheffield. It's really just an outline - based primarily on 1851 and 1881 census information and Civil Registration indexes.  All locations are in the West Riding of Yorkshire (WRY), England, unless stated otherwise.

**Much of the detail on Thomas GOODWORTH 1823-1890 and his descendants, and all of the photographs of that line, kindly provided by his descendant Ruth E WELD. In fact, her notes provide much more detail on sources than I have provided here.

Dates and references from the England and Wales Civil Registration indexes  (which I've also looked up in Leeds) are in the format
bmd Mmm year Placename Volume Page,
e.g.
bmd Dec 1888 Leeds 1b 456

There seem to be two main groups of GOODWORTHs in Sheffield in the 1800s.

The early group starts with David and Elizabeth's son Richard (1764-1821).

I speculate that this David is the son of John Goodworth and Elizabeth Shillitoe of Hatfield.

1.

David GOODWORTH
This David Goodworth is the right age to be the son of John Goodworth (1697-1781) and Elizabeth Shillitoe (1706-1787)  of Hatfield and that is what I am assuming here
c. 18 Sep 1737 Hatfield
This appears to be confirmed by an entry in the list of apprentices and freemen in vol. 2 of "History of the Corporation of Cutlers in Hallamshire" which says:
Goodworth David s. of Jo., Hatfld Wdhs, but.; to (1) Burgin Jo., Ptsmr.,sc.,8,1752; (2) Fowler Josh., Wncbk.,sc [7-11,1752,F.1780
i.e.
David son of John of Hatfield Woodhouse (butcher) was apprenticed to John Burgin in Pitsmoor as a scissorsmith in 1752, and Joshua Fowler in Wincobank, also as a scissorsmith. Took his "Freedom" in 1780.
